This Matchweek, Arsenal show they mean business by beating Liverpool at the Emirates 3-1, Manchester City look unstoppable, Chelsea beaten again, Spurs and Newcastle dropped points while Aston Villa emphatically beat Sheffield United.
Let’s rank the top 5 best players from Matchweek 23 of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
David Datro Fofana
Burnley started the game without Chelsea loanee Datro Fofana, but he was brought on late on as they were losing 2-0 to a strong Fulham side. Fofana rose to meet a fantastic cross from Lorenz Assignon just 6 minutes after coming on. He also scored the equalizer right at the death to give Vincent Kompany’s side a valuable point.
Ollie Watkins
Ollie Watkins was the chief tormentor of Sheffield United as Unai Emery’s side stunned the Blades 5-0 away from home. Watkins scored Villa’s second but also assisted two goals.
Alejandro Garnacho
A promising winger growing into his own in the Premier League… Alejandro Garnacho is impressive. His first goal was helped in by a big deflection, and on a quick counter, he ended any West Ham hope by perfectly slotting his shot past Areola for 3-0
Matheus Cunha
Wolves went to Stamford Bridge to inflict Chelsea’s second 4 goal humbling in the space of a week. Matheus Cunha was also on hand to take every clear opportunity presented to him, and he grabbed a historic hat-trick for Wolves.
Phil Foden
A complete performance from Phil Foden also helped Manchester City beat Brentford on Monday. His first goal got City level right on Half time.
Foden’s second, which was a header, was assisted by City’s Talisman Kevin De Bruyne. His third was a well executed drive into the box after receiving the ball at the edge of the box, before applying a secure first post low bottom corner finish to secure the points for City.
Phil Foden is the best player of Matchweek 23 in the 2023/24 Premier League season.
