- Manchester United And Chelsea Are Reportedly Considering A Swap Deal That Could Include Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell
- Why This Would Be A Major Step Back For Manchester United
Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly been talking about a possible swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and either or both Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell. Chelsea aim to keep improving their attacking prowess by bringing Sancho to Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils have signed Joshua Zirkzee in attack this season, and they have also recruited well in defense. However, in attack, United still look a little short. Jadon Sancho has missed Manchester United’s first two matches of the season.
Manager Erik ten Hag stated that Sancho simply did not deserve a spot on the bench or in the starting XI. From the outside it looks like the former Borussia Dortmund winger is still at odds with the Dutch coach.
This is why Chelsea are looking to pounce and negotiate a deal that will bring Sancho to West London. For Chelsea, it looks like a great deal. They would be getting 2 players with big wages off their squad and bringing in a young winger looking to restart life afresh in the Premier League.
However for Manchester United, it would be a major step backwards to add players like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell to their squad.
Why?
Manchester United‘s new investors INEOS came to the club with a new vision to attract the best young talents in the world, and build a team that reflects that strategy.
Bringing in a Raheem Sterling who has been deemed surplus to requirement at clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea represents a major step back in this window for the club.
Any addition to the Manchester United attack should be a young hungry winger ready to make a name for himself, and not a 29-year-old Sterling who has looked unmotivated in recent seasons.
Also adding Ben Chilwell to an already injury prone defense just doesn’t make any sense for Manchester United.
Tyrell Malacia has been out for over a year, Luke Shaw is also injury prone, now adding Ben Chilwell who has missed 100 games in the past 3 seasons due to injury to the squad would be foolish.
There is no doubt that Manchester United need to find a permanent solution for Sancho, and also improve their squad, but bringing in Sterling and Chilwell just to get rid of Jadon Sancho might hurt INEOS plans in the long run.
