UCL Matchweek 1 Roundup
UEFA Champions League returned in style this week, and delivered everything we hoped for. Drama, Passion, late winners, brilliance and everything in-between.
Liverpool left it late against Atlético Madrid at Anfield yet again this season. Eintracht Frankfurt schooled Turkish Champions Galatasaray, Chelsea crumbled at the Allianz Arena and Barcelona passed the St James’ Park test.
Madrid and Arsenal Start With A Win
Arsenal kicked off their UCL campaign with a 2-0 win at San Mamés. After a nervy first half, Mikel Arteta’s men scored twice in the second half to grab their first UCL points this season.

Real Madrid survived a scare against Marseille to grab a win despite going down to 10-men. Los Blancos had to rely on Kylian Mbappé’s brilliance from the penalty spot to edge a spirited Marseille side.

Perhaps the most entertaining match of Matchweek 1 was played in Turin. Borussia Dortmund and Juventus served up an entertaining and dramatic 4-4 draw. Tottenham claimed a 1-0 win on their return to the tournament.

The world was watching and waiting to see how the “World Champions” were going to perform away at Bayern Munich. However, it did not go how Chelsea fans hoped. Harry Kane scored twice to help Bayern Munich beat Chelsea 3-1.
Late Magic For Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk had to step up for Liverpool after The Reds threw away a 2-0 lead at Anfield for the second time already this season in an entertaining encounter with Atlético Madrid.

Defending Champions Paris St-Germain put on a show at the Parc des Princes as they dispatched Atalanta 4-0 to kickstart their campaign in excellent fashion.
On Thursday, Manchester City welcomed Kevin De Bruyne back to the Etihad Stadium, but his presence on the field was short-lived after a red card to captain Di Lorenzo.

Manchester City found a way to break down Napoli through Haaland and Jeremy Doku in an impressive 2-0 win.

To wrap the action up for Matchweek 1, Barcelona needed two outstanding finishes from Marcus Rashford to defeat Newcastle at St James’ Park. 2-1.
