Barcelona look set to return to the top of European football by making the biggest signings this summer.
After securing the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Hansi Flick’s side are now preparing a €100 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, in what would be a statement of intent from a club already operating with one of the most devastating attacks in world football.

The numbers this season speak for themselves. Lamine Yamal, still only 18, finished the La Liga campaign with 16 goals and 11 assists, adding a further 6 goals in the Champions League.
Raphinha contributed 11 goals and 3 assists in the league, and between them, the pair have carried Barcelona’s attack with a consistency that has few parallels in European football right now.
The one area Flick wants to strengthen is through the middle. Alvarez offers exactly what Barcelona need at centre-forward, a relentless, physical presence who scores goals at the highest level and thrives under pressure.
The 26-year-old has already told Atletico he wants to leave after rejecting their contract renewal offer, and Barcelona have been identified as his preferred destination.
The gap between the clubs remains significant. Barcelona have set a firm ceiling of €100 million, while Atletico are holding out for closer to €150 million and have no desire to strengthen a direct rival. Whether a compromise can be reached remains to be seen.
But the ambition is clear. Yamal, Raphinha, Gordon, and potentially Alvarez in the same squad would not just make Barcelona the best attack in Europe. It would make them almost impossible to stop.
