Arsenal have secured a massive 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield to extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League table.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute as Mikel Arteta’s side ended their 14-year wait for a league victory at Anfield.

The result also ended Liverpool’s five-match winning run across all competitions, leaving Andoni Iraola’s side with plenty to think about.

Havertz Punishes Liverpool’s Defensive Mistake

Liverpool started the game with plenty of intensity, but it was Arsenal who took advantage of an early defensive mistake.

A misplaced pass from Alisson Becker allowed Arsenal to win possession and launch a quick attack.

Noni Madueke combined with Declan Rice, who delivered a low cross into the penalty area for Havertz to finish from close range.

The goal gave Arsenal the perfect start and forced Liverpool to chase the game.

The hosts responded with several attacking opportunities but struggled to turn their possession into clear-cut chances.

Florian Wirtz came closest to finding an equaliser when his free-kick struck the crossbar, while Alexis Mac Allister wasted a good opportunity with a free header.

Liverpool also had a strong penalty appeal rejected after Jurrien Timber appeared to pull Alexander Isak’s shirt inside the box.

However, the referee waved play on, and Liverpool continued to struggle in front of goal.

Arsenal Hold On for Historic Victory

Despite Liverpool’s pressure, Arsenal defended brilliantly to protect their advantage.

David Raya and the Arsenal backline dealt with the hosts’ attacking threat, while the Gunners also created opportunities to extend their lead.

Liverpool eventually finished the match without registering a single shot on target.

The victory takes Arsenal three points clear of Manchester City, while Liverpool remain nine points behind the champions.

For Arteta, it was another important statement in the title race. For Liverpool, it was a frustrating afternoon that exposed their problems in front of goal.
