- 2 Down 1 to go – City Close In On Historic Treble
Manchester City Win 2023 FA CUP Title
Manchester City beat Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United as the Premier League champions close in on what will be an historic treble. Ilkay Gundogan was again the difference for City as they claim their 7th FA Cup trophy.
The German broke Manchester United fans hearts early when he scored the fastest goal in the history of the competition’s final after just 12 seconds. His goal stunned David de Gea and the rest of the Manchester United squad, but Ten Hag’s men were able to recover.
Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot to even the game after Grealish was judged to have handled the ball inside the penalty box.
Nine minutes before the hour mark, Gundogan was on hand once again to steal the lead for City. Kevin De Bruyne picked out the German who was lurking at the edge of the box, Manchester United defenders reacted too slow, as they failed to stop Gundogan’s bubbling volley.
From then on, United rarely caused City any real trouble, and Guardiola’s men were able to see out another Wembley triumph.
Manchester City clinch their second trophy this season as they head into their second UCL Final in 3 years against Inter Milan next week.
