It was another sad night for football as AC Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimović announced his retirement from football effective immediately. The 41-year-old has been plagued by injuries this season, limiting him to only 4 appearances. Regardless of his final season, Ibrahimović will truly go down as one of the greatest players of his generation.
The ever controversial Swede started his career with Malmö, before moving to Europe with Ajax. After spending 3 successful years with the Dutch outfit, Zlatan signed for Juventus, but he only played two seasons for the Turin club before signing for rivals Inter Milan.
A move to Barcelona followed, in a swap deal that saw Samuel Eto’o join Inter Milan.
After a tough spell at Barcelona, he initially joined AC Milan on loan in 2010 before making the deal permanent in 2011. His stay at Milan was productive, but also didn’t last long, as Zlatan moved to Paris to help start PSG’s Ligue 1 domination.
He spent four seasons in the French capital before linking up with José Mourinho at Manchester United.
Despite his impactful stint in English football, Zlatan left Manchester United in March 2018 to join LA Galaxy. He finally decided to return to AC Milan in January 2020. His return to the club helped the Rossonerri in their rebuild, before they went on to recapture the Serie A trophy in 2022.
Football fans know Zlatan for his boldness, his ego, and also his quality on the pitch of play. Despite being physically dominant, Zlatan possessed the skill to beat just about anyone with his footwork on the ball. A true great. He has scored in each of the last four decades and closes his illustrious career with over 570 career goals.
The Swede also won impressive honours and trophies throughout his career. Words cannot fully describe the impactful and dramatic career that the Swedish legend had. He was a player fans had to experience. Artistic, strong, controversial, and more than anything else, a fantastic player throughout his years in football.
