Liverpool and Newcastle opened up the new year in the Premier League and wrapped up matchweek 20 with a thriller at Anfield.
This matchweek was filled with some shocking results, and some expected ones. Manchester United were back to default settings as they slumped to defeat away at Nottingham Forest, Chelsea collected 3 points away at Luton, and Arsenal lost away at Fulham.
Let’s rank the top 5 best players from matchweek 20 of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Phil Foden
Phil Foden continued his good form against Sheffield United.
The England international created 6 chances, assisted two goals for City and also completed the most dribbles as City won 2-0.
Matheus Cunha
Cunha has been so good for Wolves this season.
The Brazilian alongside Hwang Hee-Chan and Pablo Sarabia terrorized Everton’s defence on Saturday.
Cunha got his goal after some good work from the right by Hee-Chan. His delivery into the box created the chance for Craig Dawson’s goal and Wolves third on the night.
Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer’s brilliance won Chelsea the game away at Luton town.
The former City forward scored two impressive goals and also grabbed an assist as Chelsea wrapped up a challenging 2023.
Michael Olisé
Olisé was brilliant for Palace again against Brentford as he grabbed two goals. The Frenchman probably should have scored more on the night.
He was again solid in his all round play as he won the most duels (8) in a very demanding game.
Mohamed Salah
Salah will be heavily missed by Liverpool as he heads to AFCON. The Egyptian was instrumental in Liverpool’s win against Newcastle, and he tops Tossyardkings’ Matchweek 20 – Top 5 Players in the Premier League.
Even after missing an important penalty early in the match, Salah was still responsible for Liverpool’s first goal of the game in the second half.
He was instrumental in Curtis Jones’ goal and also assisted Cody Gakpo. He added the fourth to seal Liverpool’s first win of the year.
