Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman won the African Footballer of the Year award for 2024. The Atalanta forward has had a spectacular year for the Nigerian Super Eagles and also his club side Atalanta. Lookman beat Simon Adingra, Ronwell Williams, Achraf Hakimi, and Serhou Guirassy.
The former Fulham winger has established himself as one of the best forwards in football at the moment. He registered 18 goal contributions for Atalanta in Serie A last season, helping them secure Champions League football.
He was also Nigeria’s best attacker at the 2024 AFCON tournament in January. Ademola Lookman single-handedly ended the uneaten run of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side with a hat-trick in the Europa League final that secured Atalanta’s first major European trophy.
Lookman continued his outstanding performances this season as well. He has already registered direct goal contributions, propelling Atalanta to the top of the Serie A table.
He takes the crown from fellow Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who won it in 2023, after an outstanding 2022/23 season with Napoli.
Ademola Lookman becomes the 6th Nigerian to win the prestigious award after Rasheed Yekini, Emmanuel Amunike, Victor Ikpeba, Kanu Nwankwo and Victor Osimhen.
