- Gunners Announce The €40m Signing of Dutch Defender
Arsenal have announced the signing of Jurrien Timber from Ajax. The 22-year-old defender has signed a 5-year deal with the Gunners and will join up with his teammates ahead of their tour of Germany.
Timber started his career at Feyenoord before moving to Ajax youth side. Timber is a center back who is also comfortable as a right back. His agility, calmness and maturity on the ball will work exceptionally well in the Premier League.
Timber has made over 80 senior appearances in the Eredivisie scoring 6 times and recording 4 assists for his boyhood club.
Manchester United were seriously linked with a move for the young defender last season, but he chose to remain in Ajax. Arsenal’s project has convinced him to move to London, and the Dutch defender cannot hide his excitement.
“I have always been an Arsenal fan, “It was because of my brothers. They were always Arsenal fans, and I just loved seeing Arsenal play. They had big players, the way they played, the style. I just love the club.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also excited to work with the 22-year-old versatile defender.
“We’re really excited that Jurrien has joined us. He is a versatile young defender, who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality. “Jurrien is a young player, but has already achieved so much. He has experienced what it’s like to go to a major international tournament on more than one occasion, as well as the trophies he has won with Ajax. We look forward to welcoming and integrating Jurrien into the squad.””
Jurrien Timber will wear the number 12 shirt at Arsenal this campaign.
The Gunners have been quick with their business after securing the signature of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz earlier this month. After Timber, Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of priority target Declan Rice.
