Thomas Tuchel started Kai Havertz as the striker over Romelu Lukaku, and the German showed why he should be the one leading the Chelsea attack

Tuchel claimed he had to drop Lukaku because he felt the Belgian was tired and needed rest after his awful performance against Crystal Palace.

Havertz and Chelsea started the game against Lille very well. The Blues should have taken the lead after just 3 minutes but Kai Havertz missed a big chance. The German forward made up for it moments later after he connected with Hakim Ziyech’s cross to give Chelsea the lead.

Renato Sanchez was at the heart of things for Lille, but the French Champions couldn’t break Chelsea. 

Jonathan David who has been in superb form this season had a very quiet game as Chelsea controlled much of the game.

N’golo Kante was in his element again tonight for Chelsea. The Frenchman was the architect of Chelsea’s second goal. After being released by Thiago Silva, N’golo Kante led the counterattack superbly well. The Frenchman found Pulisic who buried the ball into the right corner.

Kante named Man of the Match.

Chelsea will take a two-goal lead to the north of France for the second leg in three weeks.

Villarreal 1-1 Juventus

Villarreal came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Juventus. The visitors got off to the best possible start with Vlahovic finding the back of the net just 32 seconds into his Champions League debut.

Lo Celso then hit the post for Villarreal, but they didn’t properly get going until the second half. Parejo equalized, running completely unmarked into Juventus’ box to sweep it home.
