Manchester United Barely Got A Point Against Lowly Newcastle.
The Red Devils Still Look Disjointed Despite Break.
4-2-2-2? Really?
The Red Devils played their first match in 16 days and the cobwebs were still on. Manchester United looked very disjointed and most especially in the first half. Rangnick went for a 4-2-2-2 formation, but it seems Manchester United players are not used to his system yet.
Newcastle 1-1 Manchester United
Newcastle United earned a valuable point in their battle against the drop against Manchester United, although the home side will feel that they should have claimed the victory at St James’ Park.
Allan Saint-Maximin fired the Magpies ahead with a fine run and finish in the seventh minute. The Frenchman could have extended their lead in the second half but was denied by David de Gea.
Edinson Cavani equalized for the Red Devils with a scuffed strike from close range. However, Newcastle were undeterred and came inches away from a winner as Jacob Murphy struck the post before Miguel Almiron saw an effort brilliantly stopped by De Gea. Manchester United fans want to start seeing his impact on the team instead of inconsistency from the players.

Disjointed Manchester United
Newcastle were allowed to play, United failed to control the game and Rangnick claimed after the match that he was forced to change formations which yielded a goal for the team.
United cannot afford to be dropping points against teams like Newcastle. The Reds have games in hand to play and with this sort of form, they might find it hard to gather enough points for a Champions League place.
4-2-2-2?
Rangnick’s formation yesterday clearly did not work as he had planned. Rashford is better on the flank and despite his poor form, Jadon Sancho is still Manchester United’s best winger.
The formation also didn’t let Bruno Fernandes be at the heart of things for his team, hence his bad performance yesterday.
United fans will learn in the next few days if this is going to be the new norm, but whatever it is, Rangnick will need his players to get on board and fast.
United face Burnley at home on Thursday, another winnable game for United. However, their ideas need to be very clear, or else Burnley will punish United.
