Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has confirmed that Harry Maguire will continue as captain of the team. The Dutch manager sees no need to replace the former Leicester City defender. Ten Hag stated “Harry Maguire is the captain”. “I have to get to know all the players, but he’s an established captain, and he’s achieved a lot of success.”
Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named Harry Maguire Captain after Ashley Young moved to Inter Milan back in early 2020. Fans heavily criticized Maguire last season for his performances, but Erik Ten Hag sees no reason to change his role for now.
Ten Hag is known for being a straightforward and honest manager. His support for Maguire will only improve the mood in the dressing room.
The Dutch manager also commented on some transfer speculations. Manchester United have been linked with some stars, but no story has been bigger than that of Frenkie de Jong.
Ten Hag was asked about Frenkie de Jong and he declined to answer any questions on the Dutch midfielder.
Frenkie de Jong? I never talk of players who are under contract with other clubs. I’m not gonna answer about Frenkie”.
“How many signings? We’re still looking for players in the midfield and in offense”.
Ten Hag is also adamant that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay as the Portuguese is part of his plans for the new season. Ten Hag stressed that he has spoken with Ronaldo, who has not resumed for pre-season because of personal/family issues.
“I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo before this issue came up. I had a good conversation with him. He hasn’t told me that he wants to leave… I have read. We want success together”.
Ten Hag has his work cut out for him at Manchester United and he has started well.
