It was a bubbling afternoon down at Merseyside before kickoff, and despite conceding the first goal, Liverpool came from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield, winning the 2024/25 Premier League title in style.
The Reds needed just a point tonight against Spurs to win the Premier League, but goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah sealed their 25th win of the season.
An emotional night unfolded for the Merseyside club as they had the chance to go level with Manchester United with 20 top-flight English league titles. Dominik Solanke ruined the party mood just after 10 minutes, thumping a header past the goalkeeper to give Spurs the lead.
However, that goal marked the end of Spurs’ impact in an overwhelming Anfield atmosphere. After great work down the right for Liverpool, Luis Diaz touched home an equalizer. Although the referee initially chalked off the goal for offside, a VAR check confirmed it, sending the Anfield crowd back into party mood.
Eight minutes later, Alexis Mac Allister thumped home Liverpool’s second goal, opening the floodgates for the Reds. Just 10 minutes after that, Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s third from inside the box, all but sealing the title.
However, Liverpool’s best player this season, Mohamed Salah, had yet to get on the scoresheet, and the Egyptian fixed that in the 63rd minute with a goal on the counter. Udogie added gloss to the scoreline with an own goal, sealing one of Liverpool’s best League campaigns ever.
