Manchester City legend David Silva has announced his retirement from football effective immediately after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) 6 days ago. The 37-year-old announced via a video uploaded on his social media pages.
David Silva enjoyed an incredible career in Spain, England and all around the world with the Spanish national team. Nicknamed El Mago, Silva was known for his nifty tricks on the pitch of play, excellent technique, incredible vision and also his passing and vision from central or attacking midfield.
He started his career at San Fernando youth club, before joining Valencia in the year 2000. After loan spells to Eiba and Celta de Vigo, Silva found a starting spot in the Valencia senior side. The diminutive midfielder was instrumental for Los Che from 2006 to 2010, also helping his club to Copa del Rey trophy in 2008.
Silva joined Manchester City in 2010, helping the club end their long trophy drought and usher in a prosperous era for the Manchester Club.
Silva left Manchester City two years ago after making 309 Premier League appearances, scoring 60 goals and contributing an impressive 93 assists in his 10-year spell in England.
He returned to La Liga with Real Sociedad and also remained a respectable figure in the Spanish top flight. Silva represented Spain at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Euros. He also played at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups for Spain.
Fans will remember Silva’s talent and technique on the pitch of play for many years after his retirement, making him a true football legend.
