- Manchester United Want An Experienced Striker And Ivan Toney Fits The Bill
Manchester United will target Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer. Recent reports suggest that the Red Devils are now seriously considering a move for the English international.
New Manchester United board members, INEOS, are looking to revamp United’s attack this summer, and they want to add a few names and also a proven striker this summer. They want support upfront for Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled at times this season, and Ivan Toney has emerged as the top choice for that position.
Since last summer, top clubs have enquired about Ivan Toney, but his suspension from football related to betting made a move impossible.
The striker is now back, and his performances have once again caught the attention of clubs as we head into this summer’s transfer window. Manchester United reportedly lead the chase now, but Arsenal, Chelsea, and even Spurs are all monitoring Toney’s situation at Brentford.
Brentford value the 28-year-old striker at around £70m, which has reportedly deterred clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal, but United think they can sign Ivan Toney for less.
Negotiations with Brentford will be tough, but Manchester United believe they can swiftly secure the deal during the off-season.
With the club’s new direction and emphasis on data-backed signings rather than overpaying, Manchester United have alternatives if a deal for Toney proves challenging.
The Red Devils are eyeing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen perfectly fits the criteria of what Manchester United are seeking. He has proven himself, and brings a higher quality of experience compared to Rasmus Hojlund.
However, Manchester United will need to pay a premium price if they want to sign the Nigerian striker. Osimhen’s release clause at Napoli is set at €120 million.
