Manchester United scored a late winner to beat league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates, putting more pressure on the Gunners as their lead at the top of the table shrank to four points.

Matheus Cunha scored a brilliant winner in the 87th minute in a dramatic end to a match that saw Manchester United win their first Premier League game at the Emirates since 2017.

The Gunners hoped a win would restore their seven-point lead at the top of the table, and they remained cautious of a Manchester United team that defeated Manchester City quite convincingly last week. They were right to be cautious.

Arsenal 2-3 Manchester Match Report

Arsenal took the lead after Hincapie’s long cross into the box found Bukayo Saka following a half clearance by Patrick Dorgu. The Arsenal star picked out Martin Ødegaard, whose low shot deflected off Lisandro Martínez and into the Manchester United goal.

However, that lead did not last long. Summer signing Martin Zubimendi gave the ball away at the back, and Manchester United capitalized as Bryan Mbeumo rounded the goalkeeper to equalize for his side.

Arsenal and Manchester United created a few half chances for the remainder of the first half, but neither side converted them into goals. Early in the second half, however, Manchester United showed that they did not need long spells of possession to hurt Arsenal.

Just five minutes after the restart, Patrick Dorgu and Bruno Fernandes exchanged a few passes to beat several Arsenal players in midfield before Dorgu smashed home a brilliant goal to give Manchester United the lead.

Arsenal could not break Manchester United down for more than 30 minutes in the second half as United defended bravely. In the 84th minute, however, Arsenal found a goal through their reliable corner routine. Manchester United were not done.

Matheus Cunha, who came on for Bryan Mbeumo, curled home a brilliant goal from outside the box to send the travelling Manchester United fans into raptures.

Cunha’s winning goal means Arsenal now sit just four points clear of both Aston Villa and Manchester City with over 15 matches still to play in the Premier League. For Manchester United, the win lifts them into the top four for the first time since May 2023.
