Manchester United have confirmed the signing former Ajax defenders Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The pair completed their medicals at Carrington on Monday, and signed all the necessary documents today.
De Ligt joins Manchester United on a 5-year deal with an option for a further year. Manchester United paid Bayern €45 million for the transfer of the 25-year-old.
The Dutch defender has struggled for form and consistency since he left Ajax to join Juventus in 2019, and Bayern in 2022.
The former Ajax captain could not hide his excitement after signing for the Old Trafford side: “As soon as I heard that Man United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such a historic club”. “Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me”. “I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level”.
Noussair Mazraoui also completed his €20 million move from Bayern to Manchester United today and signed a four year deal with an option for an additional year. Mazraoui also struggled with injuries and playing time during his spell in Bavaria.
The Moroccan also couldn’t hide his excitement about working with Erik ten Hag once again.
“Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player”. “It’s exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career. I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful” Mazraoui told the club’s official website.
United feel they still need reinforcements in midfield for 2024/25. Talks with Manuel Ugarte are still ongoing, but the Old Trafford side may consider other options.
