There are only few records in Roland Garros that Rafael Nadal does not own, and on Sunday it became fewer, as Novak easily gets past Varillas Juan Pablo.
With his quick victory over Varillas, Djokovic made history, becoming the first male player to get 17 quarter-final appearance in the French Open.
He broke his tie with rival Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who could not appear in the tournament due to a hip injury.
Djokovic, who is excited to have broken the record, has emphasized that he has his sight on the bigger prize which is winning the tournament which will also see him break another record set by both pairs who are both on 22 Grand slam championships.
“Well, I’m proud of it, but my attention is already on the next match. I know what my goal is here. I’m trying to stay mentally, the course and of course not look too far,” Djokovic explained in an interview.
Djokovic will next face Karen Khachanov in the Quarters. Khachanov is making his top 10 comeback after 3 years, so it’s promises to be electric, with Novak being the favourite.
