- Osimhen, Lookman Fail To Inspire The Super Eagles
A disappointing loss at home for The Super Eagles, as Guinea-Bissau claimed all 3 points in Abuja on Friday. Victor Osimhen could not inspire his colleagues to victory over the 113th ranked team in the World. Super Eagles have now slipped to second in Group A of the AFCON qualifiers.
Troyes striker Mama Balde grabbed the winner in the 29th minute of the game, and the Super Eagles didn’t recover, as new boss Jose Paseiro recorded his 5th loss in just 7 matches as the coach of the Super Eagles.
Sangate’s through ball over the top towards Balde caught out the two center-backs who were not able to recover quickly. The Troyes striker expertly took the ball down and swiftly finished the chance with a coolly slotted effort past the unimpressive Uzoho. From then on, Nigeria failed to impress.
A clean chance fell to Moses simon after some good work down the right flank by Chukwueze, but Simon could not convert as his effort went wide. Another chance fell to Chukwueze himself through some good work again down the right-hand side of attack this time by Osayi-Samuel, however, Chukwueze’s strike flashed over the bar. That and a couple other half chances were what Nigeria could muster in Abuja.
Super Eagles star man Victor Osimhen was not at his best against Guinea-Bissau, but in truth, the whole team were not at their best on Friday night. The Napoli striker has been in impressive form for his club this season, but was unable to inspire his nation. He will get another chance when The Eagles visit Bissau on Monday in what will be a bid to recover top-spot in Group A.
