Manchester United kickstarted Matchweek 4 action in the Premier League after the International break. The Red Devils claimed a much needed 3-0 win against Southampton. Erling Haaland continued his insane form in front of goal to help Manchester City to a 2-1 win at home against Brentford.
Everton tossed a 2-goal lead for the second time this season as Aston Villa came from behind to secure a 3-2 win. Chelsea scrapped a 1-0 win over Bournemouth thanks to a late Christopher Nkunku goal.
On Sunday, Arsenal defeated Spurs despite being without Declan Rice and club captain Martin Odegaard. Newcastle also came from behind to beat Wolves at the Molineux to wrap up Matchweek 4 action.
Let’s rank the top 5 players from Matchweek 4 of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Callum Hudson-Odoi
Liverpool were stunned at Anfield as Nottingham Forest claimed their first victory at Anfield for the first time since 1969. Callum Hudson Odoi came on in the second half, and he tormented Liverpool’s defense for 40 minutes.
The former Chelsea winger had no right to score an amazing curler to snatch all 3 points at Anfield, but he stepped up and produced the magic against a team that had not conceded this season going into last weekend.
Robert Sanchez
Chelsea claimed their second Premier League victory of the season away at Bournemouth thanks to a late Nkunku goal, but they would have certainly lost the match if it wasn’t for Robert Sanchez.
The Spaniard played his best ever game for Chelsea saving a penalty and also making 7 important saves as his side claimed a hard fought win in a rough match at the Vitality Stadium.
Gabriel Magalhães
Gabriel continues to prove that he is currently one of the best defenders in the world. The Brazilian was immense for Arsenal in the North London Derby.
Gabriel and Saliba were solid as always, but the Brazilian made all the difference at the other end by heading in the only goal of the game, securing all 3 points for Arsenal.
Ollie Watkins
Watkins did not have the best start to the season before the international break, but it looks like the Englishman has benefitted from withdrawing from the last England squad and resting during the international break.
He scored a brace to bring Aston Villa back into the game after the The Villans went 2-0 down to Everton. Unai Emery’s side went on to win the game 3-2, thanks to an absolute screamer from Jhon Duran
Erling Haaland
It looked like an ordinary weekend for Erling Haaland, and that is his fault. We are so used to an Haaland hat-trick every other week now that a brace looks like a “normal event” – That’s how ridiculously efficient the Norwegian is in front of goal.
Yoane Wissa scored for Brentford just 22 seconds into the tie but Haaland equalized for City in the 18 minutes later. The Norwegian also scored what proved to be the match winning goal in the 32nd minute.
Erling Haaland is the best player for Matchweek 4 of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
