Spurs and Aston Villa both came from behind to grab 3-1 wins against Brentford and Wolves respectively. Newcastle suffered their first defeat of the season away at Craven Cottage thanks to goals from Raul Gimenez, Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson.
Let’s rank the top 5 players from Matchweek 5 of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Dean Henderson
The former Manchester United goalkeeper was immense for Palace against his former side. Henderson made 7 good saves to keep Manchester United out on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s men would have walked away with all 3 points if it was not for Henderson’s top performance.
Morgan Rodgers
Although Rodgers has not scored this season, he has been one of the best players for Aston Villa. The midfielder was key to Villa’s come back win against a very stubborn Wolves side.
He played a huge role in Villa’s equalizer and their third goal of the day. He created three good chances, made six recoveries, and directly contributed to two goals, delivering another outstanding display in a 3-1 win.
Son Heung-Min
Son did not score for Spurs against Brentford, but without the South Korean, Ange Postecoglou’s men would have struggled to break down Brentford. Dominik Solanke equalized for Spurs after Brentford took an early lead. Son stepped up to set up Brennan Johnson goal to give his side the lead in the 28th minute.
Son also played Maddison through on goal in the 85th minute, and the former Leicester man wrapped up all 3 points for his side. A captain’s performance from Son Heung- Min.
Luis Diaz
The Colombian has been in Superb form in the Premier League this season for Liverpool. He scored a brace for The Reds as they got back to winning ways in the Premier League after their shock loss to Nottingham Forest last week.
Diaz controlled a long ball ahead of Bournemouth’s defense and goalkeeper Kepa, to slot in his first goal of the game. He scored his 5th Premier league goal of the season just 2 minutes later with a controlled finish inside the box.
Nicolas Jackson
Jackson was criticized for his performance against Bournemouth last week, but he responded this week brilliantly. The Senegalese opened the scoring impressively after just 3 minutes.
After receiving a pass from Sancho, Jackson accelerated into the box through the left hand side and managed to beat Alphonse Areola, squeezing the ball through his legs, from a tight angle.
He was played through on goal for his second, and he slotted home his fourth PL goal of the season in style. He turned provider for Cole Palmer just after the break to help Chelsea take the game beyond West Ham.
Nicolas Jackson is the best player for Matchweek 5 of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
