UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 will be one of the most exciting weeks of the 2026 football calendar, as the UCL group phase table is packed with teams on the same points, all needing a win on the final day to secure progression into the knockout stages.
UCL Matchday 7 saw Liverpool defeat Marseille at the Velodrome, Real Madrid embarrass Monaco, PSG lose away to Sporting, and Arsenal show their might against Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
Arsenal Reign in Italy
Arsenal reigned supreme in Italy as the Gunners defeated Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday. Gabriel Jesus scored a brace, while Victor Gyokeres sealed another three points for the Gunners in the Champions League league phase.
The Gunners now boast a flawless record in the UCL this season, winning all seven of their matches despite facing giants like Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Real Madrid Embarrass Monaco
Alvaro Arbeloa got his Madrid side back in form with a tantalizing 6–1 victory over AS Monaco at the Bernabéu. Los Blancos endured boos over the weekend at their historic home, but those boos made way for cheers on Tuesday as Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior inspired Madrid to a brilliant win.
Kylian Mbappé raced to a brace before Thilo Kehrer scored an own goal, and Franco Mastantuono added a fourth. Vinícius Júnior scored a brilliant fifth for Real Madrid, and Jude Bellingham rounded the keeper to complete the scoring after Jordan Teze pulled one back for Monaco.
PSG Fumble in Portugal
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored in between a powerful Luis Suárez brace as Sporting Lisbon claimed all three points in a dramatic encounter on Tuesday.
Sporting needed the win to strengthen their push for qualification to the knockout stages, and they approached the match with that objective firmly in mind.
Luis Suárez scored a late winner as PSG suffered their second defeat of the UCL league phase.
Despite already qualifying for the knockout rounds, Bayern Munich still put two past Union St Gilloise, while Newcastle scored three against PSV at St James’ Park.
Moises Caicedo’s header helped Chelsea get past Pafos. Barcelona defeated Slavia Prague 4–2 away from home, Liverpool dominated Marseille 3–0 in France, while Spurs won at home against Dortmund.
