Real Madrid want to bring in a midfielder after the World Cup. Los Blancos often lack options in the middle of the park, especially since the retirement of Toni Kroos and the release of Luka Modrić. They have linked the club with many midfielders, both young and experienced, but one name that keeps appearing is Manchester City’s Rodri.

Rodri has just over one year left on his contract as of today, and Real Madrid could start speaking to him next January if they want to bring him in. However, recent reports suggest that Real Madrid would much rather bring in a younger player like Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández instead of Rodri.
According to RadioMarca, a report states that Real Madrid will not sign Rodri, despite the Spanish midfielder recently stating that he would find it hard to turn down a chance to join Real Madrid, even though he already played for Atlético Madrid for many years.

Real Madrid have courted Enzo Fernández for some years now, and despite his mega-money move to Chelsea, the Spanish side still see the Argentine as a better fit for their team than Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, whom they could get on a free transfer in 2027.

Pricing Enzo Fernández away from Chelsea would be difficult, but not impossible, as the Argentine has also stated his love for the city of Madrid. The World Cup winner still has six years left on his contract, and it will take a significant bid to convince Chelsea to sell their influential and ever-available assistant captain.
