Yes. You are here because of Garnacho’s stunner. The goal that had even rival fans gasping. The timing, the technique, and the sheer shock at Goodison park… it was epic.
After witnessing a strike like that, and the sheer Euphoria that came with it, I had to get more, so I started digging around for the best overhead kick or “bicycle kick” goals in the Premier League era, and of course I wasn’t disappointed.
So, here is a revised list of the top 5 Bicycle kick goals in the Premier League era.
Why Samuel Eto’o is Africa’s GOAT
5 – Christian Benteke (2015)
Manchester United v Liverpool – It doesn’t get much bigger than that in the Premier League. Although Benteke’s goal ended up being consolation in a 3-1 loss for Liverpool at Old Trafford, it was struck so clean. One of the best goals Liverpool have ever scored in the League.
4 – Andy Carroll (2017)
West Ham needed a second goal against Crystal Palace back in January 2017. Michail Antonio floated ball into the box and up stepped Andy Carroll to smash in an overhead kick with so much precision and power, sending London stadium into raptures. An Iconic strike.
3 – Emre Can (2017)
2016/17 goal of the season! Emre Can doesn’t score too many, so we can dare say that he will never score a better goal for the rest of his career. It was a majestic strike, caught so cleanly that he beat Watford’s goalkeeper at his near post, despite the ball coming in from an awkward angle.
2 – Alejandro Garnacho (2023)
Yes! Garnacho is on this list, and after watching the goal for almost 30 minutes straight, I think it deserves a spot on any list about “bicycle kick goals”. The strike was iconic, and to do that in front of a hostile Goodison park crowd after just 2 minutes… The Audacity!
1 – Wayne Rooney (2011)
Yeah. Rooney still takes the number 1 spot. His goal from 2011 still stands as the best bicycle kick goal ever in the League, and it just boils down to the context of the game, circumstance, and the opponent. Wayne Rooney’s iconic overhead kick was the winning goal in a Manchester derby at Old Trafford. Plus, the celebration just makes it better… lol.
Excellent list, Garnacho definitely top 2
