- Top 5 Players From Premier League Week 2
Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Selhurst park on Monday night concluded week 2 of the new English Premier League season. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United disappointed fans, but Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton all picked up important victories at home.
Despite a relatively quiet week for all the usual Premier League big hitters, some players stepped up. Let’s rank the top 5 best players from Premier League matchweek 2.
Serge Aurier
The former Spurs man was immense for Steve Cooper’s side as they got their first win of the season. Yes, he created the two Forest goals on the night, but he was also so fantastic in defence. 5 recoveries, and 5 clearances in defence against Sheffield United on Friday. Forest easily could have lost the game without Aurier’s input. He sits at number 5 this week.
Alphonse Areola
The Frenchman saved a Enzo Fernández’s penalty right before half-time to keep the score level at half-time. A 2-1 lead at half-time for Chelsea would have changed the game totally. Areola was also strong in commanding his box, despite West Ham’s low block. He also claimed crosses well, and generally helped his side beat Chelsea 3-1 and deny The Blues any real chance in the second half.
Bryan Mbuemo
Mbuemo is the reason why Brentford are not missing Ivan Toney on the pitch. The Cameroonian was on target again this week, scoring twice to help his side get a comfortable 3-0 win over Fulham.
Yves Bissouma
Another impressive performance from Yves Bissouma in midfield this season. The Malian won his second man of the match award already this season, and that just shows how important he has been for Tottenham.
Bissouma contributed massively to everything Spurs did right against Manchester United in midfield. He was impeccable defensively and also good in attack. The 26-year-old won the most duels (10), made 3 clearances, 6 ball recoveries, had the most tackles (4), and also was the most fouled player on the pitch against Manchester United.
Kaoru Mitoma
He should be on this list just because of his goal against Wolves, but Mitoma was absolutely class for Brighton and was integral to almost everything Brighton did in attack against Wolves.
The Japanese created 4 chances against Wolves and scored a solo beauty himself. He is a one of the reasons why Roberto de Zerbi’s men are on top of the League after match day 2.
