Manchester City and Arsenal fought for the title to the end, but the blue side of Manchester prevailed and secured their record-breaking 4 titles in a row last Sunday, while Arsenal had to settle for another runner-up position.
From gameweek 1 back in August 2023 to May 2024, Premier League stars entertained fans. Every dribble, every assist, every goal, interception, and tackle was key to where these teams eventually finished this season.
The efforts of the best players in the league counted for something this season, and these players will feature in Tossyardkings’ 2023/24 Premier League Team of the Season.
2023/24 Premier League Team Of The Season
GK – Emiliano Martínez
Dibu had a fantastic season with Aston Villa this year. At a point during the first part of the season, Aston Villa were impossible to beat at Villa Park, and Martinez was key to that.
95 saves for the Argentine this season, and 9 clean sheets, propelling Aston Villa to an unprecedented Premier League top 4 finish for Villa.
CB – William Saliba
Willian “The Rock” Saliba. He was absolutely immense for Arsenal throughout this season. 38 matches, 18 clean sheets and 29 goals against. He was the key to a stable Arsenal backline this season.
His partnership with Gabriel flourished, and they were just 2 points from winning the Premier League.
CB – Virgil van Dijk
Although Liverpool fell off in the title race, Virgil van Dijk led Liverpool back into the top 4, and they were also in the title talk for much of the season.
He helped The Reds to 9 clean sheets this season, despite the poor depth of Liverpool’s squad.
CB – Gabriel Magalhães
Gabriel formed a perfect partnership with Saliba this season. Arteta helped perfect a partnership that almost won the Gunners their first Premier League title in over 2 years.
Saliba’s calmness and unique reading of the game was complemented perfectly by Gabriel’s calculated aggressiveness and tenacity in defence. He deserves a spot on 2023/24 Premier League team of the season alongside Saliba and Van Dijk.
CM – Declan Rice
Brought in for over 100 million pounds, and if you ask any Arsenal fan, they will gladly pay that money again for Rice – That’s how good he’s been for them this season.
One of his major improvements this season was how reliable he was for Arsenal on set-piece duties. He also upped his goal contributions this season. Netting 7 times and also assisting 8 times for the Gunners.
CM – Rodri
What can’t he do? The key to Manchester City’s stability on the pitch. The Spaniard has sealed his place as one of the best midfielders ever in Premier League history.
High level performances all through the season, and he also chipped in with important goals throughout the season… 8 of them in fact. One of the best midfielders in Europe, for sure.
AMF – Cole Palmer
What a signing he has been for Chelsea this season. Without Cole Palmer’s goals and assists this season. Chelsea will definitely will not finish in the top half of the table.
22 league goals and 11 assists in a season as a Premier League player is not an easy feat for anyone, but doing that as a 22-year-old landed Palmer EPL’s Young player of the season award.
AMF – Martin Ødegaard
The chief creator for Arsenal. Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka led the Gunners attack for much of the season. A quiet but effective leader for Arsenal on and off the pitch.
Ødegaard contributed 8 goals and 10 assist to Arsenal’s course this season, and he was only 2 points away from being the first Arsenal captain to lift the Premier League since Patrick Vieira.
AMF – Phil Foden
Foden stepped up big time for Manchester City this year, and he has reaped the rewards already. The Englishman has been named the Premier League’s player of the season.
The City academy graduate didn’t just score goals, his goals helped City win some important matches. He made 8 assists and scored 19 goals, including an important brace on the final day of the season, to help City seal the league title.
ST – Erling Haaland
Not as clinical as he was in 2022/23, but he still landed the Golden boot with ease – That should show you the effectiveness of Erling Haaland.
Despite missing some important run of matches for Manchester City through injuries, Haaland still managed to finish as the best striker in the league with 27 goals.
ST – Ollie Watkins
What a season for Ollie Watkins. He has undoubtedly won a spot in England’s EURO 2024 Squad. Watkins was the go-to man for everything good in Villa’s attack this season.
Leading in goals as expected, but also in assists. The Dynamism of Watkins game was on show for the entirety of this campaign, and his form has directly contributed to Villa qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1983.
Manager – Unai Emery
Emery comfortably took Aston Villa from being a relegation side early last season to finishing mid-table conveniently. But this season, he went 10 steps further. He helped Aston Villa qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over 40 years – A remarkable achievement.
