Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen was decisive for Galatasaray as they overcame Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The Nigerian striker provided an assist for the winning goal scored by Gabonese midfielder Mario Lemina as Galatasaray took a very crucial lead into the second leg at Anfield.
The decisive moment arrived in just the 7th minute, as Liverpool were stunned.
Following a whipped Gabriel Sara corner, Osimhen out-jumped the Liverpool backline to flick a powerful header across the face of the goal.
Mario Lemina was perfectly positioned at the back post to nod home the Nigerian’s assist, sending the RAMS Park crowd into a frenzy.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool struggled to adapt to the hostile atmosphere and Osimhen’s relentless physicality. The Reds thought they had snatched an equalizer through Ibrahima Konaté in the second half, but a VAR review for handball ruled it out.
Despite late pressure from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai, Galatasaray’s defense—anchored by Davinson Sánchez, held firm.
