Chelsea were the biggest winners on Day 1 of UCL Matchday 5 matches. The Blues dominated Juventus while Cristiano Ronaldo fired Manchester United to victory.
Group H.
Starting with the current European Champions. Having lost against Juventus earlier this season, Chelsea needed just a point at home against The Old Lady to guarantee a spot in the next round.
However, Chelsea were in their element on Tuesday night as they completely swept aside Juventus with a dominant performance. Thomas Tuchel’s men were hardly bothered against Juventus.
Trevoh Chalobah scored his first Champions League goal to give The Blues the lead.
Quick-fire goals in the second half from Reece James and Callum-Hudson Odoi made the result safe. Timo Werner came on to add the fourth goal for Chelsea as they moved top of Group H.
Zenit can no longer qualify for the next round, but they played a disappointing 1-1 draw away at Malmo
UCL Group G.
Anyone from this group can still qualify for the next round. Jonathan David’s goal was the difference between the French Champions Lille and RB Salzburg.
Lille and Salzburg are first and second respectively while Sevilla are in third and Wolfsburg are bottom of the group. All teams can still qualify for the next round
Sevilla comfortably beat Wolfsburg 2-0 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
UCL Group F
Jadon Sancho’s first goal for Manchester United sealed a very important victory for the club in Spain.
Cristiano Ronaldo punished the Villarreal defense after they lost the ball in a very dangerous area. The Portuguese forward lobbed Geronimo Rulli to make the score 1-0.
Sancho made the points safe on the 90th-minute mark with a thumping finish to help The Red Devils advance to the next round.
A six-goal thriller in Bern means that Young Boys will have to repeat the trick and beat Manchester United on matchday six if they’re to stand any chance of qualifying to the next round.
UCL Group E
Although they’ve already qualified for the next round, Bayern Munich traveled away to Kyiv to claim a 2-1 victory over Dynamo. However, it is Barcelona who now have it all to do.
The Catalans failed to beat Benfica at home. So, for them to qualify they will need to beat Bayern Munich in Germany or hope that Benfica will lose to Dynamo Kyiv.
