The turbulent marriage between Chelsea and Enzo Fernández has reached a breaking point. After a week of public tension, head coach Liam Rosenior officially suspended the Argentine midfielder for “crossing a cultural line.”
The Blues boss dropped the vice-captain for the crucial FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City.

“Enzo will NOT play tomorrow and against Man City. I have no bad words for him but a line was crossed and we had to SANCTION Enzo”, says Liam Rosenior. pic.twitter.com/reYYMOpTUE
The suspension follows Fernández’s controversial comments during the international break, where he openly flirted with a move to Madrid and criticized the club’s tactical direction following their 8-2 aggregate humiliation by PSG. However, the saga took an even sharper turn when his agent, Javier Pastore, issued a chilling ultimatum regarding the £107m man’s future.
“Our plan after the World Cup is to meet with Chelsea again and, if there is no agreement, to explore other options,” Pastore stated.
While Pastore labeled Enzo the “backbone and leader” of the team, he took a direct swipe at the board’s management. “There are factors that influence decisions—salary, respect, or the way things are handled. I am not seeing the club handle things in the best possible way with him.”
With Chelsea currently sitting 6th in the table and club legend Mikel Obi publicly telling the midfielder to “f*** off” on his podcast, the “respect” gap feels unbridgeable.
The “After the World Cup” deadline suggests that unless Chelsea bows to the agent’s demands, Enzo’s career in London is effectively over. For Fernández, the next step isn’t just a return from suspension—it’s a countdown to a summer exit.
