Cristiano Ronaldo on retirement rumours
Speaking on the situation, the ex-Real Madrid man remained defiant in his stance.
“That’s all from the press. It never crossed my mind that my cycle with Portugal had come to an end. Quite the opposite: it gave me even more motivation to continue.”
Ronaldo, who captained Portugal to victory in the inaugural Nations League in 2018-19, emphasized his desire to win the tournament again.
“The motivation is to come to the national team to win the Nations League… We’ve already won it once and we want to do it again.”
The Portugal forward, who has been subject to criticism after the European Championship, remains unfazed. “I don’t think long-term, it’s always short-term. I’m focused on the next game, the next challenge.”
Ronaldo, known for his unwavering confidence, asserted, “Until the end of my career, I will always have the mindset that I will be a starter. What I feel at the moment, and the coach’s words also demonstrate this, is that I continue to be an asset to the national team.”
He added, “I will be the first to leave when I’m no longer an asset. But I will go with a clear conscience, as always, because I know who I am, what I can do, what I do, and what I will continue to do.”
With Portugal set to host Croatia and Scotland in the Nations League, Cristiano Ronaldo is focused on leading his team to success. His dedication and passion for the national team remain unwavering, and he’s determined to prove himself once again.
