- The Man To Blame For Victor Osimhen ‘s Summer Transfer Debacle
- What Osimhen Should Do After Galatasaray Loan
Three Months ago, Victor Osimhen was the hottest property on the transfer market after Kylian Mbappe (if he ever was going to choose any other club than Real Madrid). Now Turkish giants Galatasaray are signing him on loan just so he can continue to play competitive and professional football until next summer or at least January.
Genesis Of Osimhen’s Transfer Problem
In December 2023, Osimhen signed a new deal with Napoli. The new terms took his weekly wage from £93k a week to over £250k. The contract also included a release clause of £113million.
Entering into this summer, Napoli expected to quickly sort out Osimhen’s transfer, as they regard him as one of the best strikers in the world. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Chelsea, PSG, and Al Ahli were the only clubs that presented offers for Victor Osimhen. PSG pulled out of a potential deal due to the high release clause, Chelsea were willing to strike a deal with Napoli, but they could not reach an agreement on personal terms with Victor Osimhen.
Al Ahli agreed a deal with Napoli and also personal terms with Osimhen, but Napoli demanded more from the Saudi side, and that derailed the deal.
All these events could have ben handled better by all parties involved, but the flaw in Osimhen’s camp is quite obvious.
The Main Villain
According to Myfirstagent, The role of the football agent is to look after every aspect of their player’s career, to allow the player to concentrate on playing football.
Victor Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world, and he is just entering into his prime years. A star like him should have one of the best agents around.
Roberto Calenda (Osimhen’s agent) does not have the experience of representing a player as big as the reigning African footballer of the year.
According to Transfermkt, Roberto Calenda has only managed players like Juan Jesus, Maicon and 22-year-old Sampdoria defensive midfielder Gerard Yepes. – He simply does not understand what it means to represent a player of Osimhen’s caliber
Since Victor already made his mind up about leaving Napoli this summer, his representatives (his agent) should have negotiated a lower release clause with the club. This would have allowed Osimhen’s PSG move to progress. Better structure should also have been negotiated with Al Ahli to avoid the late breakdown that happened on transfer deadline day.
As demonstrated by Jorge Mendes, marketing a player to clubs is also the job of a good agent. Roberto Calenda had one of the best strikers in the world as his client and still failed to get enough top clubs interested.
With Osimhen now headed out on loan to Galatasaray, he should look to upgrade his representation, because his abilities needs the best representation, care and marketing.
As much as great fault lies with Calenda, lets not act like we don’t know how Aurelio de Laurentis operates, that guy is the devil himself, him and Daniel Levi
