Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva were killed in a car crash.
The death of Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has sent shockwaves across the football world.
Jota, 28, was killed alongside his brother André Silva in a car accident that took place in Spain on Monday, June 30.
Authorities have confirmed details surrounding the crash, while football federations and clubs have begun responding to the tragedy.
The car crash occurred in Spain
According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately Km. 65 of the A-52 motorway, within the municipality of Cernadilla in the Zamora province, northern Spain.
This particular route is commonly used by motorists travelling from northern Portugal to central Spain, particularly the region of Castilla y León.
The vehicle was a Lamborghini, and the incident was described as a high-impact crash followed by combustion.
Emergency response teams dispatched to the scene included the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Extinguishing Consortium and a Medical Emergency Unit (UME).

Preliminary findings suggest that theLamborghini suffered a tyre blowout while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
The accident occurred at around 12:40 a.m. when, for reasons that are being investigated, a car left the road and caught fire at kilometer 65 of the A-52 towards Benavente.
El Confidencial reports that firefighters extinguished the blaze, which spread to surrounding vegetation, and collaborated with emergency medical services and the Civil Guard.
Medical services on the scene could only confirm the deaths of the two occupants of the vehicle.
As of now, no third-party vehicles appear to have been involved in the collision.

The second fatality in the crash was André Silva, aged 25, younger brother to Diogo Jota and also a professional footballer.

Silva had previously played for FC Penafiel, a club in Portugal’s second-tier division.
Authorities confirmed both victims were travelling together in the same vehicle and died on impact or shortly thereafter due to the severity of the collision and subsequent fire.
