Manchester United kicked things off this weekend in the Premier League, with Ruben Amorim’s side travelling to West London to take on Brentford.

Manchester United fans hoped their team would build on their hard-fought win over Chelsea. However, it was clear from the start of the match that Manchester United would struggle to break down their opposition.

Brentford typically sat deep against Manchester United and hoped to catch them on the counter – and that was exactly how Igor Thiago scored the first goal of the match.

Brentford dispossessed Matheus Cunha in their final third, and that allowed Jordan Henderson to pick out Igor Thiago, who sprinted away from Harry Maguire to give Brentford the lead.

Minutes later, Brentford punished United again with another long ball from the back to Igor Thiago. This time, the Brazilian brought the ball down calmly and passed to Kevin Schade, whose shot Bayindir parried, but Igor Thiago tapped home for 2-0 with just 20 minutes played.

Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal for Manchester United to reduce the deficit before the hour mark.

However, United didn’t get a chance to draw level until the 76th minute, when a Brentford defender brought down Bryan Mbeumo inside the box. Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty, but Caoimhín Kelleher saved his effort.

Manchester United toiled to create another chance for an equalizer, but to no avail. Brentford killed off the game in the final minute with a screamer from Mathias Jansen.

Chelsea Collapse Again

For the second week running, Chelsea lost control after going a man down. The Blues hoped to put last week’s debacle at Old Trafford behind them when they welcomed Brighton to the Bridge.

Chelsea controlled the first half perfectly. They took the lead through Enzo Fernández and reduced Brighton to zero shots on target in the first half.

It looked like another assured home performance from Chelsea until Andrey Santos made a mistake at the back that forced Trevoh Chalobah into a reckless last-man tackle on Diego Gomez.

The referee sent Chalobah off, and from then on, Chelsea collapsed. Brighton took control of the game, and a brilliant header from Danny Welbeck kick-started their comeback.

Maxim de Cuyper scored the second for Brighton in the second minute of additional time, before Danny Welbeck sealed the win late on.

Late goal wins it for… Crystal Palace

Liverpool lost their first game of the season against a very stubborn Crystal Palace side. Eddie Nketiah scored in the last minute of stoppage time to give Palace the win after Federico Chiesa cancelled out Ismaila Sarr’s 9th-minute opener.

Liverpool had all the possession, but Crystal Palace created the better chances.

Although he struck the bar late in the first half, Jean Phillip Mateta should have scored some big chances he had in the first half. Liverpool looked poor in possession, and also conceded a lot of chances with Palace creating 7 big chances and 2.92xg.

Arne Slot and Liverpool fans will hope Arsenal also drop points away at Newcastle on Sunday.
