Nigeria comfortably dismissed Mozambique 4-0 in the Round of 16 of the ongoing African Cup of Nations on Monday.

The Super Eagles have been brilliant so far in Morocco, and their latest dominant performance against Mozambique has set up a quarter-final showdown against 2019 winners Algeria.

Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles have been almost perfect in this competition so far, but they will need more if they are to defeat Algeria in Marrakesh on Saturday.

Nigeria will need better organization in defence and a top tactical approach, especially in midfield, against a very fast and strong Algeria side.

So far, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, and Wilfred Ndidi have been brilliant in midfield, and they have set the base for Super Eagles’ brilliant attacking performances.

However, against a strong side like Algeria, Nigeria will need to be extra precise in possession, as the North Africans have a stable defence, and also quick, brilliant wingers that are elite in transitions.

Defences Will Also Make The Difference

Algeria have conceded only one goal so far in this tournament, and that shows the level of the opposition Nigeria will face on Saturday

AFCON 2025: Nigeria Will Need More To Beat Stubborn Algeria

The Desert Warriors snatched the quarter-final spot late in extra time against a DR Congo team known for their defensive stability. That means the Super Eagles also have to be ready to play their best defensive game of the tournament if need be on Saturday.

Nigeria conceded two easy goals against Tunisia that almost cost them all three points. They conceded against Tanzania in the opening game, and they also allowed a poor Ugandan side to score. All of that sloppiness at the back needs to be cut out against Algeria.

Eric Chelle will be hoping his side can dig deep and defend for long periods if need be on Saturday, as Algeria have what it takes to outplay the Super Eagles.

In all areas of the pitch, the Eagles need to reach another level if they are to continue their brilliant form at AFCON 2025 against Algeria on Saturday.
