Arsenal have kickstarted talks to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. The Gunners have already started talks with Newcastle, and they hope to lure the 28-year-old midfielder with Champions League football and the promise of competing on all fronts.

Newcastle rejected Arsenal’s £55 million offer last week, claiming they hope to keep their captain, but Arsenal believe they can get a deal done for the former Lyon man.

Newcastle face an uphill battle to keep Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, as both players are ready to listen to offers from bigger clubs this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Tonali as they aim to make the Italian the face of their new project, while Bruno Guimaraes is also open to leaving St James’s Park in hopes of playing Champions League football more consistently and fighting for bigger titles.

Guimaraes contributed 9 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League for a Newcastle side that struggled for large parts of the season.

He is currently one of Brazil’s most important players at the ongoing World Cup in North America. Rumours are circling around the Brazilian, claiming he has a clause that allows him to negotiate a move away from the club if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League, and Arsenal are waiting to capitalize.

Arsenal hope to start a major summer with the signing of Guimaraes as they also close in on signing highly-rated Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga.
