Since Chelsea lost horrifically to PSG and since the start of this international break, Enzo Fernandez has granted interviews about his future and has continually left the door open for a move away from Chelsea, preferably in the near future. He could become the first of the Chelsea core to leave Stamford Bridge and put a dent in Chelsea’s naive, profit-hungry project.

“I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires. Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.” The former Benfica man has stated that he would love to live in Spain, and reports have linked him with Real Madrid over the last two years following the retirement of Toni Kroos.
When asked if he has held any talks with the 15-time European champions, Enzo made it clear that he has not discussed anything with any club. “Real Madrid? Honestly, nothing – zero talks. Right now, we’re focused on Chelsea and the games we have left. After the World Cup, we’ll see.”
It is clear that the Argentine sees his future away from Stamford Bridge, and that would surprise no one after reports suggested that some Chelsea stars have begun to question the ambition of the Chelsea project.

Chelsea signed Fernandez in January 2023. He has since played two underwhelming seasons and has only won trophies and qualified for the UEFA Champions League under Enzo Maresca during the 2024/25 season.
The ambitious project Enzo was promised looks almost dead just three years later. As Chelsea’s assistant captain, if the Argentine continues to fuel rumours of a move away from Chelsea, stars like Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and others might also start alerting their agents to look for a project that wants to win instead of trading players for profit.
