Scudetto chasers Inter Milan clinch the Coppa Italia in Rome, in a dramatic and entertaining clash against Juventus.
Inter clinched their first Coppa Italia for the first time since 2011, but it didn’t look that way for most of the second half.
The Coppa Italia Frecciarossa got underway, and before too long Nicolo Barella struck the opener outstandingly. The former Cagliari man curled in the opener from outside the box to get the Inter fans excited.
Juventus grew into the game slowly. Vlahovic almost equalized for the Old Lady but was thwarted by Handanovic.
Juventus responded in the second half with two quick-fire goals from Alex Sandro and Dusan Vlahovic. The Brazilian scored with a deflected shot, but Dusan Vlahovic slotted home on the rebound two minutes later after Handanovic blocked his first effort. It looked like Juventus were going to defend their Coppa Italia trophy, but Inter got a chance to equalize late on.
Leonardo Bonucci brought down Lautaro Martinez inside the box. Hakan Calhanoglu fired home to level the score. The game went into extra-time and that was where Inter won it.
Inter Milan were awarded another penalty after Juventus De Ligt clattered into De Vrij. This time Ivan Perisic held his nerves to give Inter the lead in extra time. The Croatian sealed the victory with a well-struck shot from the edge of the box.
Inter have now dethroned Juventus from every front in Italy.
This triumph will give inter confidence to continue their Scudetto pursuit.
