Cristiano Ronaldo Absent From Training Again As He Eyes Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo missed Manchester United training for a second consecutive day. United’s international players were due to return to Carrington on Monday but Ronaldo was absent, with “family reasons” cited.

It is unclear when the Portugal international will return, with United scheduled to leave on Friday for their tour to Thailand and Australia. Ronaldo, 37, would like to leave the club as soon as possible should United receive a suitable offer.

Potential Destinations

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss his situation. The idea of him switching to Chelsea is certainly on the cards. Bayern Munich are also aware of his situation, while Napoli are understood to be interested. It is understood the view from Manchester United is that Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale this summer.

The Portuguese player has 12 months remaining on the contract he signed when he rejoined Manchester United last summer from Juventus. There is also an option in his contract for a further year. He scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, finishing as United’s top scorer. A lack of Champions League football this coming season is a major factor in his decision. He also has the determination to fight for trophies at the highest level.

Ronaldo has been concerned about the lack of progress on and off the field. There is also the issue of a clause in the contracts of all United’s players that stipulates a salary cut of 25 per cent for missing out on the Champions league.

On the transfer front, United boss, Erik ten Hag is hoping to add to his ranks. Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia has been completing the final stages of his medical, while Christian Eriksen has verbally agreed to join the club.
