Things have gone from bad to worse for Liverpool on the injury front. The defeat against Arsenal was made even worse by their key players suffering injuries.
Luis Diaz to miss World Cup.
Colombian attacker Luis Diaz will be sidelined until after the World Cup due to the knee injury he suffered in Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal. The left winger underwent a scan on Monday which revealed that he’s facing around six to eight weeks on the sidelines. That means he will miss Liverpool’s next 10 games before the tournament starts in Qatar next month.
However, it is understood that no surgery is required on the knee injury. The expectation is that Diaz will be fit to return to action when the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day.
This signifies a major blow to manager Jurgen Klopp with Diaz arguably Liverpool’s most consistent performer during a disappointing start to the season. Diaz limped off just before the break against Arsenal after being hurt in a challenge with Thomas Partey. He left the Emirates on crutches with his knee in a brace.
He has started all but one of Liverpool’s matches this season, scoring three goals in the Premier League and another in the Champions League. Klopp selected him to start Sunday’s 3-2 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates but the 25-year-old was forced off shortly before the half-time break. He was replaced by Roberto Firmino.
More Injury Woes For Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold was also withdrawn with an injury, which Klopp later confirmed to be an ankle problem.
Klopp said after the match: “Trent is bad as well with the ankle. This morning, it was revealed after tests that Trent Alexander-Arnold would miss the next two weeks. Joel Matip also picked up a knock and he’s also out for two weeks. This is disappointing news for Klopp especially at a time when his team is clearly struggling.
The only positive for the fans is that Darwin and Carvalho will get more game time. Ofcourse, that also means that there’s no place for them to hide as they will be heavily relied upon. This could be a defining next few weeks for Liverpool’s season.
