Nigeria’s flawless run at AFCON 2025 came to an end after Morocco defeated the Super Eagles in a penalty shoot-out. After two hours of football, Nigeria and their North African opponent failed to score for the first time in the tournament, which led to the second penalty shoot-out of the AFCON 2025 tournament.

Morocco brilliantly limited the Nigerian team to just a few shots on target throughout the game. Nigeria have been brilliant when it comes to creating in the middle of the park and putting in crosses for Victor Osimhen to convert, but Morocco nullified all that.

The Atlas Lions defended with five players, with creative players like Saibari tracking back to help limit the Nigerian attack, and that approach worked perfectly.

Morocco limited Nigeria to just two shots, with only one on target, while Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was busier, saving five shots on target from the Moroccans.

After an unproductive two hours of football from both teams, the game headed into a penalty shoot-out. Nigeria had an early advantage after Igamane saw his spot kick saved by Nwabali, but Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze could not turn Igamane’s miss into a lead for Nigeria as Bounou saved his penalty.

Bruno Onyemaechi missed his penalty as Youssouf En-Nesyri scored the winning spot kick to seal Morocco’s place in the final of AFCON 2025.
