Manchester United have revived their interest in Ajax forward Antony — but face a challenge to lure him to Old Trafford during the current transfer window.

Ten Hag Wants To Be Reunited With Antony

Manchester United submitted an offer of €80million (£67.6million) for the Brazilian on Wednesday, but saw it rejected. Erik ten Hag is seeking reinforcements for his beleaguered side before the transfer deadline and is keen to be reunited with his former player.

However, Old Trafford bosses are not optimistic in prising Antony from Amsterdam after their fresh approach was knocked back. Ajax want to keep hold of the 22-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 57 appearances since joining the club. The Red Devils are reluctant to go higher than this week’s bid.

Alternatives

A deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is seen as the more likely of the two. Last year, Gakpo agreed to extend his current deal by a year to 2026. There is an understanding that if suitable offers landed this summer, PSV would cooperate. Central midfield is United’s main priority before the window shuts.

A move for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is progressing, with United willing to make the 30-year-old one of their top earners. Ten Hag has signed Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia this summer but are stepping up their search for more recruits. The Red Devils have had to endure a terrible start to the season. They lost their opening game at home to Brighton and were humbled 4-0 at Brentford last time out.
