After several weeks of negotiations between Arsenal and Manchester City, the Gunners have finally reached an agreement for the signing of Gabriel Jesus for £45 million.
Arsenal’s Key Target
Gabriel Jesus, 25, was Arsenal’s first-choice striker target for the current transfer window. Arsenal will be pleased to have found an agreement as he also attracted interest from Chelsea and Tottenham. Arsenal will finalize some remaining elements soon. The Brazil international will become Arsenal’s fourth acquisition of the summer after Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira.
Gabriel Jesus moved to City in 2016 and there is a year left on his contract. He has scored 58 goals and recorded 32 assists in 159 Premier League games for Man City. Mikel Arteta worked with the forward while assisting Pep Guardiola between 2016-2019. By joining Arsenal, who have qualified for the Europa League, Jesus would be foregoing Champions League football for at least one season.
Arsenal will view this as a significant statement signing considering their lack of Champions League football. Jesus has the ability to play in any of the forward positions. However, he will be play as an out-and-out striker for Arsenal.
The Gunners begin their 2022-23 Premier League campaign away to Crystal Palace on August 5. Arsenal are also pushing to sign Leeds United’s Brazilian winger Raphinha. Leeds turned down Arsenal’s first bid earlier in the week. However, The Gunners will return with an improved offer.
