- Rice Joins Up With The Gunners Before They Fly Out To The US
Arsenal have announced the signing of Declan Rice from West Ham. The confirmation of the deal took an extra week because of paperwork, but the Gunners finally have their man. The West Ham captain has signed a 5-year deal at the Emirates, and he will join the London club on their US tour.
Rice has been at West Ham since 2013, after he was released by Chelsea. The England international developed from West Ham’s academy, to the first team, and also served as club captain after Mark Noble retired. The Gunners signed Rice for his expertise, calmness, leadership and technical ability in the middle of the park.
Arsenal were able to beat Manchester City to the 24-year-old’s signature, as Pep Guardiola also wanted to sign the English midfielder.
Rice was excited after completing his move to Arsenal –
Today I’ve had my first day, and I’m feeling really at home. You only ever get one career also I really believe in what Mikel is building here and the squad he’s building. I’m really looking forward to the future with Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta sees Declan Rice as a player with “tremendous ability” –
“We’re really happy that Declan is joining us. He is a player with tremendous ability, who has been performing at a high level in the Premier League and for England for a number of seasons now. Declan Rice will wear the number 41 shirt at Arsenal, the same number he wore at West Ham.
