- Chelsea ‘s New Signing Will Wear Raheem Sterling Squad Number
Chelsea have further indicated that Raheem Sterling is no longer part of the club’s project by stripping him of his squad number.
The 29-year-old winger was left out of Chelsea’s squad ahead of their match against Manchester City on Sunday. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has doubled down on his decision with Raheem Sterling. The Italian stated that he has told Raheem Sterling that he won’t be playing much for Chelsea this season.
“I just try to be honest… I told Raheem he’s going to struggle to get minutes with us. Chilly (Chilwell), he’s going to struggle here too”
Just hours after Enzo Maresca stated this in a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Swiss side Servette FC, The Club’s official website confirmed that Pedro Neto will take Raheem Sterling’s number 7 shirt while, new signing Joao Felix will take Chalobah’s number 14 shirt.
This shows that Maresca and Chelsea FC have truly made up their mind about players that do not fit into their project. The likes of Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, and some other fringe players will be looking to make permanent moves before the September 1 deadline.
With more than 10 players still expected to leave Chelsea this summer, the Blues will keep their eyes out for important additions. Chelsea are still in talks with Napoli to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The Blues have stated that they want the deal to be a loan with an obligation to buy next summer.
