American young tennis Star Coco Gauff books her place in the last 8 of the Roland Garros with straight sets victory over Anna Schmeidlova. Next for Gauff will be a rematch against defending Champion Iga Swiatek, who beat the 19-year-old American in last year’s final at the French Open.
Swiatek didn’t really have much to do in her own Round 4 match, as her Ukrainian Opponent Lesia Tsurenko pulled out of the tie in the first set, due to medical issue. Gauff was 5-2 up against Schmiedlova in the first set, but then things got more interesting.
Gauff got broken while serving for the set at 5-2 and again at 5-4. She helped the 100th-ranked Schmiedlova, who had never been past the third round at Grand slam event, with a double-fault, then sent a forehand into the net to end a 21 rally exchange, making it 5-5 in the first.
In the next service game. But Gauff then took the next two service games after breaking Anna on the 11th service game and then served it out.
After she gathered herself to win the first set, Gauff called for a trainer, who placed a white bandage just below her knee.
The edges of that patch began to curl up as Gauff played, and she removed it soon after, cos she felt uncomfortable moving on the court with it.
Many think with that Medical timeout and slight injury, Gauff would pose less of a threat to the defending champion when they face off in the Quarter final.
