- Scoring 4 goals in 2 matches for Belgium could reignite Lukaku’s season
Romelu Lukaku got a hat-trick against Sweden as Belgium began their new era under Domenico Tedesco last week. On Tuesday evening, he scored Belgium’s second goal in their 3-2 victory against Germany. His goals during this International break brings a much-needed boost in confidence for the Inter Milan striker, who has struggled for fitness and form this season.
Lukaku has only featured 19 times for Inter this season, starting 10, and only scoring 5 times for the Nerazzurri this season. His form and fitness has cast serious doubts on where he will be playing next season, as Inter Milan aren’t sure of signing the Chelsea forward permanently this summer. Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta confirmed that Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer, then the club will decide if they want to bring him back.
…to help sort out his future
Some sources believe the Italian club will not sign him because of his recurring injuries and fears over his form, but his goals during this international break will remind the Italians what he is capable of. Lukaku nodded in Belgium’s first against Sweden last week, followed by two typical close range tap-ins. However, his finish against Germany suggests the 29-year-old is still one of the best strikers in the world. If he brings his new form back to the Serie A with Inter Milan and also helps them with goals in the Champions League, Inter will not be willing to pass up an opportunity to sign him.
There is also a slight possibility of Lukaku returning to Chelsea, and new manager Graham Potter might want to evaluate the Belgian before making a decision. Lukaku’s late season form will influence a lot of decisions going into the summer.
