EPL Roundup – Chaotic Chelsea, Rampant Man United, Sorry Spurs and Champions Arsenal

Arsenal and Aston Villa wrapped up the action in Matchweek 2 of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. Chelsea were involved in another entertaining encounter when they hosted Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Spurs are still yet to score in the league, while Manchester United’s brilliant second-half display saw off Ipswich Town brilliantly at Old Trafford.

Spursy Tottenham

Going into Week 2, Spurs were hoping their 3-0 loss against Brentford was a fluke, and De Zerbi had hoped to start impressing Spurs fans when they hosted Newcastle, but things didn’t pan out like that.

Omar Marmoush and Savio were in the team against Newcastle following their move from Man City. It was a tale of a side fans tipped to do well this season (Spurs) versus a team fans tipped to struggle (Newcastle), and as the game went on, the difference between seeing a team on paper and on the pitch began to show.

Although Spurs had more possession and created the better chances, Matthias Jassiele’s men were far more clinical. Goals from Antony Elanga and Yoane Wissa sealed a brilliant away performance for Newcastle as Spurs search on for their first goal and points of the new PL season.

Chaotic Chelsea

Chaotic Chelsea disregarded possession once again to put Brighton to the counter-attacking sword on Sunday, but their lack of concentration and defensive grit saw Brighton try to claw their way back in the second half with two goals.

However, Cole Palmer stepped up with a brilliant goal to seal the points for Chelsea, even as they conceded another goal in the last seconds of added time to make the score 4-3.

Manchester United Bounce Back

Manchester United needed to win to put their 2-0 loss away at Hull on opening weekend behind them, and they did that perfectly on Sunday, although not without some drama in the first half.

Fatawu got the better of Luke Shaw, and the Ghanaian set up Davies, who tapped the ball home for 1-0.

Ipswich looked really good in the first half as they caught United out for most of the half, until Marcelino Nunez slipped late on in the first half. United pounced on the counter-attack, and PFA Player of the Year Bruno Fernandes scored to equalise and make it 1-1.

Immediately after the restart, United looked like a different team as they brought intensity and force Ipswich deep into their own half.

Maguire and Bryan Mbeumo scored either side of Bruno Fernandes’ double to secure a 5-1 lead and Fernandes’ first hat-trick of the season.

Ipswich scored another goal late on through Chuba Akpom to make it 5-2.

Arsenal Continue Title Charge

Arsenal defeated Unai Emery’s Aston Villa 1-0 away from home at Villa Park as they continue their charge for the Premier League title.

The Gunners were wary of Villa’s threat, and that affected Arteta’s tactics as they looked to stop Villa’s expansive way of attacking in the final third.

Zion Suzuki made some good saves from set pieces as Villa kept Arsenal at bay at half-time.

However, Bukayo Saka knocked home what turned out to be the winner in the second half as Arsenal grabbed all three points at a ground they failed to win at last season.
