Barcelona played the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Frankfurt. The Bundesliga side held the Catalans in Germany, leaving the tie delicately poised ahead of the return leg in Barcelona next Thursday.
Barcelona 1-1 Frankfurt Match Report
Barcelona and Frankfurt served an entertaining match in Germany, but in the first half, Ferran Torres came the closest. The former Manchester City man found space outside the box. Torres released a ferocious shot that would have been the opening goal if not for Kevin Trapp’s fast reflexes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the next chance from close range.
Then it was time for controversy. Referee Srdjan Jovanovic awarded Frankfurt a penalty kick after a challenge by Bousquet on Frankfurt striker Borre inside the box. The referee, however, changed his decision after checking the replays. The second half started with purpose from Frankfurt. After a corner kick was headed out by Eric Garcia, Dortmund loanee Ansgar Knauff controlled the ball at the edge of the box before releasing a ferocious shot which gave Frankfurt the lead.

After the goal, the Bundesliga side could have gotten more, but they could not take their chances. 18 minutes later, Barcelona equalized. Ferran Torres finished up a quick move that involved Dembele and Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona still have a lot to do if they are to qualify for the Semi Finals of the Europa League.
West Ham 1-1 Lyon
West Ham and Lyon will head into next week’s second leg in France on level terms. It’s a creditable draw for the Hammers in the circumstances, after Bowen gave the hosts a second-half lead despite their being reduced to 10 men late in the first half. Ndombele nabbed an equaliser for Lyon, but they weren’t able to break down the Londoners again.
