Everton Sack Rafael Benitez After Just 7 Months In Charge
Rafael Benitez leaves Everton following a poor run of form landing the Toffees in 16th position, just 5 points off relegation places. Relegation favorites Norwich defeated The Toffees yesterday and that proved to be Benitez`s last match as Everton`s manager.
A statement on the club`s official website read.
Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager. Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect. An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.
Derby County manager Wayne Rooney could replace Benitez. The club will announce a permanent replacement in due time.
Everton`s Bad Form Under Benitez
Everton have just one win in heir last 13 Premier League matches. The Toffees` only Premier League victory since September was against Arsenal on December 6th. They have only gathered 6 points from their last 13 Premier League matches, and that has derailed their season.
Their focus for the rest of the season will now be to steer clear of relegation problems and a mid-table finish.
Possible Replacements
Many managers will want the Everton job at the moment. Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney are early frontrunners for the job. Roberto Martinez’s name has also been mentioned, but that looks highly unlikely. Wayne Rooney is currently the manager at Derby County, but Lampard is without a job and could be contacted first.
Graham Potter is another option for the Everton job, but that looks unlikely at the moment as he is still at Brighton. The club can appoint an interim manager till the end of the season, Duncan Ferguson and Rudi Garcia could be considered.
